Hands up who’s got horrible feet?
Are they ugly? Smelly? Painful? Darn right embarrassing? Would you rather draw a veil (or a sock perhaps) over those unsightly toes all the way down there at the far end of your body?
And do you neglect your feet? Yes I know you’re busy, probably short of time and even stressed and I wouldn’t mind betting that your feet are quite far down on your agenda. Am I right?
Well it’s time to love your feet
Your feet are quite literally, your foundation and difficulties with them such as cracked skin, discoloured nails and verrucae can be indicative of other health issues. And if you don’t treat them, you could be storing up a whole load of long term health problems. As Leonardo da Vinci said, ‘The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art’, so whatever you do, don’t neglect them.
Listen to your feet – our quick guide to common foot problems
- Oddly shaped or thickened/discoloured toenails can be a sign of illness and should be checked.
- Verrucae can be a sign of a low immune system among other things so should be assessed for possible treatment options.
- Calluses can build up and ongoing pressure causes painful corns. This can cause you to walk differently and change your gate. Oh and they hurt.
- Athlete’s foot or cracked skin, will not go away if you ignore them.
The only way is up
Problems with your feet have only one way to go … and that is up into the rest of you. But you can prevent and combat specific health issues and even your stress levels with ongoing maintenance.
