Pregnancy Massage in Haywards Heath, West Sussex
Pregnancy massage at the Clinic at Borde Hill is a firm yet relaxing massage treatment given specifically to expectant mothers. The appointment lasts an hour, costs £50, and is delivered by Abigail Hyde at our clinic on Borde Hill Lane in Haywards Heath.
It is offered from three months — 12 weeks onwards — provided your pregnancy is progressing well. If you would like to talk it through before you book, please contact Abigail Hyde to discuss whether pregnancy massage is right for you.
Pregnancy massage sits alongside your maternity care. Massage at the clinic is always complementary to, and never a replacement for, medical diagnosis or treatment, and nothing here takes the place of the care you receive from your midwife, GP or obstetric team.
What a pregnancy massage session involves
Your appointment will be for an hour.
Before the massage
You will be asked some questions about your previous medical history and about how your pregnancy is progressing. That conversation is part of the appointment.
How you will be positioned
You will be in a side-lying position for the treatment. Pillows and towels are used to keep your spine in a neutral line and to support your head, as well as to keep your pelvis in a comfortable position.
What to wear
Please wear comfortable, easy-to-remove clothing and suitable underwear. You will always be covered modestly with a towel.
One practical note that catches people out: massage oil is used, and some of it may transfer to your clothing. You may wish to wear something old rather than arriving in something you have just bought.
Who pregnancy massage is for
This treatment is for expectant mothers, from three months into a pregnancy that is progressing well.
Pregnancy massage is generally safe when delivered by a trained therapist following appropriate screening, but it is not suitable in every circumstance. If you are unsure whether it applies to you at this point in your pregnancy, contact Abigail Hyde to discuss whether pregnancy massage is right for you before booking.
If you are not pregnant and are looking for massage more generally, the clinic’s holistic massage and sports and remedial massage pages will be a better fit. If you would prefer a treatment that works on the feet rather than the body, see maternity reflexology.
Safety, suitability and your maternity care
Massage therapy — during pregnancy or at any other time — is not a primary healthcare system. All health-related issues should be discussed with a primary healthcare practitioner before treatment begins.
Massage at the clinic is always complementary to, not a replacement for, medical diagnosis or treatment. Clients are encouraged to speak with their GP, midwife or relevant healthcare professional about any new or worsening symptoms.
If you are experiencing bleeding, severe headache or visual changes, sudden swelling, or reduced movements, seek urgent maternity advice — your midwife, maternity triage, NHS 111 or 999.
Your therapist
Pregnancy massage at the clinic is delivered by Abigail Hyde, a sports massage and pregnancy massage therapist at the Clinic at Borde Hill with specialist training in pregnancy massage, and a calm, reassuring approach in a professional clinic setting. She is a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT), membership number 176413, and completed all her training with the therapy training centre Brighton Holistics. She is fully insured and works in line with the clinic’s policies on consent, confidentiality and hygiene. Her full profile is on her practitioner page.
