About The Clinic at Borde Hill

A complementary health clinic in a converted dairy on the Borde Hill estate, just outside Haywards Heath. Twelve practitioners, each running their own practice, under one roof since 2011.

How the clinic came about

Tony Dawson, a McTimoney chiropractor, had been working at this spot since 2005 and had come to know the Ouse Valley and the historic Borde Hill estate around it. When the chance came to take on the building himself, he opened The Clinic at Borde Hill in November 2011.

The idea was straightforward: bring the practitioners people usually have to hunt for one at a time into a single, unhurried place. The building — a bright former dairy with thick stone walls — turned out to suit that better than any high-street unit would have.

More than a decade on, it is still the same premise. Twelve practitioners now work here across chiropractic, osteopathy, counselling, acupuncture, massage and more, and the clinic is quiet enough that most people hear birdsong rather than traffic from the treatment room.

How the clinic works

A few things worth knowing before you book.

Every practitioner here runs their own independent practice. They set their own hours and fees, hold their own professional insurance, and are individually registered with the body that governs their discipline. What the clinic provides is the building, the reception and the referrals between them — so if the person you see thinks someone else down the corridor is a better fit, they will say so.

You do not need a diagnosis or a GP referral to book, and you do not need to have done any of this before. A first appointment is mostly conversation: what brought you in, what you have already tried, and what a sensible next step looks like. If that step is not us, we will tell you that too.

The clinic also keeps Jane Wateridge as its artist in residence. Her work hangs throughout the building and suits the setting — which is rather the point of a health clinic in the middle of the Sussex countryside.

Complementary therapies work alongside NHS care, not instead of it. For anything urgent, or for a diagnosis, please speak to your GP or call 111.
