How to treat Cellulite with Shockwave Therapy?

Cellulite is the dimpled appearance of the skin usually around the buttocks, thighs, hips and abdomen. It tends to affect women more than men due to the distribution of the fat cells beneath the skin.

There are three grades of cellulite:

  1. Dimpling when pressure is applied to the area affected
  2. Dimpling is visible when standing but not lying down
  3. Dimpling is visible even when lying down

Causes of cellulite

There are various factors that can make you more prone to cellulite and these include pregnancy, an inactive lifestyle, poor nutrition, hormones or your genetics.

A new kind of treatment

Some recent research has suggested that shockwave therapy can help with the remodelling of skin collagen, therefore, improving cellulite by tightening the skin.

There is also some evidence that the effects of shockwave therapy can maintain improvements for several months following treatment. However, shockwave therapy should be used in conjunction with other lifestyle changes such as exercise, increase in water intake and improvements in nutrition to gain the full benefits in the appearance of cellulite and its prevention.
