Do you have enough time and money? If not, you’re not alone and whilst I can’t offer you large amounts of either, I can give you 5 simple tips to help you get the most out of the time you’ve got and the money you’ve spent on a massage!
Whatever type of massage you enjoy, start using these 5 simple tips to reap all the benefits that your massage has to offer and gain a little bit of extra time to enjoy them.
Preparation, preparation, preparation…
- Plan: Book your massage when you have time and space afterwards. This may seem obvious, but I have treated many people who go straight from massage to do the weekly food shop etc. and do not make the most of their massage.
- Arrive a few minutes early for your massage appointment, turn your phone off and let yourself wind down a little, perhaps read a magazine in the waiting room or take a few deep breaths.
- Take a moment to focus in on how you’re feeling either during the day or just prior to the massage. Are your shoulders tight? Do you have any neck pain? How have you been sleeping? The more feedback you can give your masseuse the better your massage benefits and results.
- Participation: Be part of your treatment so you can make the most of each minute. A simple way is to link your relaxation to your breathing. Breathe in calm, relaxing feelings e.g. to match the sensation of the massage strokes and technique. Breathe out any stress or tension you may feel and perhaps see how much stress and tension you can release with each exhale.
- Permission: Give yourself permission to rest after your massage if you want to. You have created the time and space (see step 1) you need, so if you want to put your head down for 20 minutes or have a long nap, that’s OK. Sip water after your massage throughout the rest of the day to hydrate you and look forward to your next appointment!
Making time for yourself, doesn’t actually have to take up huge amounts of your day and by just building in a few extra minutes before and after your massage, you’ll get so much more out of it. And that’s money well spent.
