Distal Biceps Tendinopathy

Distal Biceps Tendinopathy

This is usually an overuse condition affecting the biceps tendon insertion in the front aspect of the elbow. It is an uncommon injury characterised by pain in the front aspect of the elbow. Treatment is difficult and avoidance of the aggravating factors is essential.

Evidence for the use of shockwave therapy for distal bicep tendinopathy is extremely limited and of not high quality as there are no randomised controlled trials, but a study conducted in 2016 found that radial shockwave therapy was an effective and safe treatment for distal bicep tendinopathy.
