Reflexology and Indian Head Massage by Paula Minto

I’m excited to retake bookings at The Clinic at Borde Hill from 12 April.  I’ll offer my usual range of complementary therapy treatments, including Reflexology & Indian Head Massage (which can also be offered with hot stones), Ear Candling and Natural Lift Facial Massage.  I’ll also be introducing a new facial using natural organic products. The facial massage can also be combined with the Natural Lift Facial Massage to provide a wonderfully relaxing treatment to rejuvenate the facial muscles and improve the skin condition.

For those interested in learning more about Reflexology, it is based on the theory that reflex points on the feet correspond to the body’s areas.  Reflexology’s history stems from the ancient Chinese over 5000 years ago and the Egyptian tomb artwork, which shows foot massage. By applying pressure and massage to these reflex points aims to balance the corresponding areas of the body. Anyone can enjoy Reflexology; it is a non-invasive treatment that can be adapted to suit yourself, friends and family.   A range of techniques are described below that are included in treatment.

For the warm up

Effleurage cream or oil is applied to the feet and gently massaged using the flat of the  hand over whole foot, ankle and lower calve for several minutes on each foot.

Foot rotation – the ankle is supported with one hand and rotate with the other hand in each  direction.

Toe rotation – starting with the big toe, holding the end of each toe, rotate 3 times in each  direction.

Foot twist – both hands are placed on the instep of the foot and gently twisted 3 times in  opposite directions.

Knuckling  – down the sole of the foot with the knuckles of the whole hand or individual  knuckles of the fingers.

After the warm-up

A thumb walking technique is used across the entire foot to ensure each ‘reflex’ of the foot is covered.  Starting at the big toe, supporting the foot with the other hand, the thumb moves in a caterpillar creeping motion up the toes, applying light pressure.  Then across the top of the sole of the foot,  working down the foot in horizontal lines to the heel.  Then up the instep of the foot from the heel to the big toe.  Two fingers are used together, your down the top of the foot, starting at the base of the toes and finishing by the ankle, finishing with around the ankles.

To finish

More relaxing massage to  both feet using oil.
